What is notable is that there are way more events on High Sierra than on Sierra, which tells me that the mDNS code in High Sierra may either have a bug and drops devices or be way too aggressive in removing devices much sooner than Sierra did: If you do a dns-sd -B on your system, you can see your Bonjour device events here is a log of mine on High Sierra. My Canon PRO-100 printer is hardwired and is configured using the Canon IJ Network protocol, which is also doing device discovery (no hard coded IP address) and that printer has been rock solid on by Sierra and High Sierra. I also have configured a printer using fixed IP and LPD protocol for may Canon LP6230 printer, which was also going "offline" often. I have been doing some experimenting and, like others here, have found that specifying a hard-coded IP address for both the printer (using LPD protocol) and the scanner (in Canon's MF Scan Utility) dramatically increases the reliability of the MF733C printer/scanner.

When I install the printer under Printers & Scanners system preferences, I can print to the printer at first. until Apple drops second generation AppleTV device support at least.Since upgrading to High Sierra, my iMac has recurring problems with losing the connection to my wi-fi printer. So maybe the handshake isn't that different. Also, according to Macs still support AppleTV second generation devices - but not using the new "peer-to-peer AirPlay" protocol (which is probably the iOS9 AirPlay thing).

The article came out in September 2015, but the first post in this thread indicating an issue was from Feb 2015. However the download link suggests the AppleTV firmware is based on iOS 8. The firmwares over at indicate second generation AppleTV devices support up to firmware version 6.2.1. but looking closer the problem here is probably different. If true, it looks like getting this new protocol working is going to be a bit of work. From a glance, it looks like Apple may have updated the AppleTV firmware to support a completely different kind of pairing setup as found in iOS 9 devices.
